Our Go-to Green Beauty Picks
Obviously I love my Kari Gran for skin care, but am often asked what other natural products stock my shower shelves and make their way into my toiletries routine. After scouring apothecary shelves, every corner of the Internet and a lot of trial and error, here are my go to favorites!
Nails: LA Fresh has a number of all natural products, and I’m partial to their Acetone Free Nail Polish Remover. It comes conveniently in individual packets and has the most wonderful “Tuscan orange” scent. These days I don’t always take the time to remove chipped polish at home, so I keep these stashed in my car and makeup bag if I need to look a bit more presentable on the go. Polish-free nails tend to look a touch nicer than chipped up, sad nails.
For polish, I’m in love with the super long-lasting Zoya line. My most recent DIY mani just survived a 10 day trip without a chip (although I didn’t do a single dish on said vacation!). My favorite hues are Sari for my fingers and Carmen for my toes.
Shampoo and Conditioner: This was a tough one! I tried a boat load of brands and they all left me with what I deemed as “doll-hair.” That was, until I stumbled across Seaweed Bath Co. Their shampoo and conditioner is clean and green and works great on my fine, yet slightly coarse and curly hair. Bonus, it is specifically marketed for people with psoriasis or eczema, which I personally don’t have, but is another reason to give this brand a try if you do.
Perfume: I used to love wearing fragrance until I realized what havoc synthetic fragrances can wreak on your endocrine system (future post topic). Now, it’s all about all natural notes, though I haven’t yet found a perfume I can’t live without. I’ve been playing with a few single note essential oils, and am currently loving a Rose de Mai scent from France. I carry mine with me in my handbag, then roll it on a few times a day. Essential oils smell amazing, but don’t have the staying power of a synthetic.
Shaving I have to sneak this one in here – Kari Gran Cleansing Oil. But it’s true. This product is a definite multitasker and not only works great for your facial skin care routine, but is like soft silk when used for shaving. Even if you don’t use it as your everyday, it works great for travel as you can pare down your toiletry bag when this performs double duty.
Body Lotion: I’m not a lotion fan, so I use Nutiva’s Organic Coconut Oil. Body oils take a bit to get used to. You have to let them soak in, but the level of hydration has much more staying power than a traditional lotion. For best results, I recommend using it straight out of the bath or shower, when your pores are all steamed open and ready to absorb.
