On the Saagara site they recommend inverted poses like the plough posture or headstand in order to achieve a healthy glow. Both help blood flow to the brain and allow for good blood circulation in the face around the eyes and cheeks. These yoga poses help to clear the skin; it only takes about a week before you can start to see a noticeable difference.
Another reason yoga is good for your skin is that it lowers levels of stress. Yoga reduces stress and leads to better sleep, a strengthened immune system and a healthier you, which in turn leads to healthy skin. Pranayama, that’s the yoga breath, in particular provides a simple way to reduce stress. Stress contributes to dull and aged skin, but yoga counteracts that by helping you relax. Yoga is proven to improve sleep habits and with better sleep the lack of rest won’t show up on your face in the form of dark circles and bags under the eyes.
At Kari Gran we are lucky to have our own yoga studio, it’s called The White Studio. Both Lisa and I try to take part in a yoga class at least three times a week. If we’re lucky four or five times. Yes, it’s good for the bod but what I notice more is what it does for my mood and my mind–it’s a gift I give myself.
